Caring for Those Who Serve: Relief Fund Donor Testimony
The Relief Fund supports PCA pastors, widows, and ministry leaders in their most desperate hour. One faithful donor, who asked to remain anonymous, recognizes the importance of providing care for those who serve so many. He shares, “I see all of the hard work and selflessness that pastors and their wives pour into their calling. Let’s be honest, being a pastor’s wife is one of the most important and industrious jobs in the church. It would be a dereliction of duty as a Christian to abandon in retirement people who devoted their lives to their congregations.”
He discovered the Relief Fund through the quarterly alms offering at Christ Community Church of Chapel Hill (PCA) where Geneva Benefits is the fourth alm of the year. Steven explains, “Being “deserving of alms” may not be the right concept to think about, but if anyone is deserving of alms, it’s those who dedicated their lives to serving others through Christ.”
The Relief Fund offers an opportunity to serve ministry workers who have given so much themselves. Sharing about several pastors who have shepherded him, He says, “Each met me at a different point in my journey to know Christ, and each had an important message to help me along the way.” It is a gift to return care to ministry workers and their families through the practical outworkings of the Relief Fund.
For over 50 years, the Relief Fund has given $12 million to support PCA pastors, widows, and ministry workers in need, operating out of the generosity of its donors. Gifts to the fund provide monetary relief to retired PCA pastors living near or below the poverty line, provide one-time and monthly support to widows in need, and provide affordable access to Christian counseling to PCA pastors’ wives. The Relief Fund supports the financial health and wellbeing of PCA ministry leaders and their families when they need it most.
